The Dark Side Dubs digital 7" is a no-holds-barred piece of upfront experimental ragga infused with a sprinkling of dubstep. My thanks go out to Mr.Doll for providing a quite incredible vocal performance that's at once menacing and full of the conscious roots spirit. Jah is my guide indeed! [ more info ]

Been a long time since we rock'n'rolled... A slow burning fat slice of electro dub opens the proceedings before the first of two Ragga Twins remixes sets the party alight with a take-no-prisoners dance cut that's primed for action. Side 2 explodes with a reggae anthem guaranteed to become an instant dance floor classic. A perfect 120bpm hands-in-the-air disco stomp that heralds a welcome return to the baroquedub brand. Enjoy. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of dub... A deep and melancholy affair compared to the last up-for-it netlabel release, but there's plenty here to keep the dubheads happy. Two versions of the contemplative title track are backed by two huge productions with pristine sub tones designed to get those bass cones working. It's a warm, thick valley fog well worth getting enveloped in. [ more info ]

Dub Sides sees baroquedub going back to its roots with a heavy-weight soundsystem-friendly slab of 12inch vinyl designed to test your subs. Side A is pure dance floor filler material, featuring reworkings of vocals by Ruffneck and Sizzla while Side B's more mellow version excursions explore the riddim of Ini Kamoze's Burnin' and pit Big Youth's vocal stylings against a new composition. Enjoy. Baroque Dub - Dub Sides digital-12inch [release bd0013] [side A] Baroque Dub - Badness Can't Win...

The Electro Sides digital 7" single is a clean and clinical excursion into electro-dub territory. With synth atmospherics worthy of Kraftwerk meeting head-on with a funky sub-defying bassline , Side A starts the proceedings with the slow burning Southside Dub. Side B goes off on a wonky breaks excursion propelled by syncopated rhythms and a decidedly hands-in-the-air hook. A slinky anthem for more leftfield dancefloors. Enjoy. The second in the Versions Excursions series of digital 7inches goes deep and dark with this pair of dubby roots outings. Once again classic reggae riddims are explored to the far edges of electronica, first tripping out on a wash of Dubolitious delayed feedback then delving into Massive Attack territory with a moody invocation of the classic 'Cuss Cuss'. "Its a ghetto peoples song, only dem can sing this one". As classic as they come, this very special reworking of Ghetto People Song kicks off this brand new installment in the Version Excursions series. Baroquedub production in its purest form from a laid back wurly melody to endless dub delays and huge horns. Enjoy. Side B represents with the Heathen riddim, another chilled out groove and pristine mix. There's more than a touch of The Godfather theme tune in this version's cinematic...

This one's more than a little bit special... baroquedub mixes and remixes of original tracks by the funk phenomenon that is the P-Theory . Featuring the vocal talents of Kevin Goins, brother to the sadly deceased Glen Goins of Parliament/Funkadelic and led by the p-funk genius of Alex Campbell and Graham Kay, this is one unstoppable machine steeped in the tradition of 70s funk/rock but with a deep commitment to passing on the message to the next generation. Welcome to a world of deep dubby...

We're back to basics with this classic double act reworking of the Billie Jean and Artibella riddims. Side A, kicks off with two deceptively simple mellotron driven melodies interweaving, as the track slowly builds into a electro-flamenco hybrid. The breakdown heralds a variation on the hypnotic Billy Jean bassline. Not sure what to call it but you can be sure I'll be using it again. I may even post the midi file in the riddim section to stand alongside the greats - it's that good! Side B is a...

This special double-A side release marks another departure for the baroquedub netlabel. Influenced in equal measures by early Basement Jaxx electro-reggae cut-ups and more recent developments in dubstep, The Dark matter EP represents a further shift away from the old school roots of earlier releases. After the last mixtape's nod to the uplifting reggae of Aotearoa New Zealand, this is all about getting back to the music of London's urban ghettos. Enter the haze of a dark and uncertain digital...

After a couple of mini-EPs exploring the darker side of dubstep this release marks the return of the Version Excursions series with a very special trio of riddim reworks. The A side, ' Freedom Blues Redub ', kicks off the proceedings with an upfront, club orientated remix reminiscent of the recent hypnotic grooves of Sandoz . With a tempo which has been jacked up to 123bpm you may not even recognise the original - anoraks should check out the MIDI file preview on the midi riddims' page for a...

Things are getting stripped bare and going digital for this the third release in the Versions Excursions digital 7inches series. Two more classic riddims get the treatment, this time with a nod to the retro-electro scene which has been re-claiming the 80's as period not entirely devoid of musical brilliance. Treading the fine line between cold and sparse digital rhythms and truly emotive musical composition isn't an easy thing to pull off. These two instrumental reworkings are defintely...

Originally released in 1999 (is it really 9 years ago?!) this newly remastered version of the samplelicious classic is finally presented here in all of its unadulterated glory. Predominantly recorded using an AtariST , an E64 sampler and a Mackie mixer these were the days before plug-ins, soft synths and all singing, all dancing timestretching, hard-disk recording DAW 's. You can hear the midiverb effects working overtime, the over compressed, over driven buses pumping away, ducking the mix in...
